Rachel Veal

We were lost, but didn’t know it

The stars begged us to look up,

A shimmering, light scattered map

The birds beckoned us to listen,

To follow them in their directed flight

Instead I took it solo.

I was alone and you were alone

Always moving, but never beginning.

You left 99 and went into the wild.

I lit my lamp and swept my whole house.

Because there was something we were missing
